The lecture is closely related to the introduction to metadata. It deals with individual metadata schemes in more depth and puts the issue of metadata in the context of the preparation of the National Repository Platform (NRP).

The lecture will provide a general introduction to metadata. What metadata is and is used for, examples of metadata from different areas, categorization of metadata, various approaches to metadata, its design, creation and use. Various approaches will be demonstrated using selected document description standards, namely MARC, Dublin Core, XML, RDF and METS. A discussion will follow the approximately 90-minute talk.

The seminar is thematically related to the "Systems for the National Repository Platform (NRP)" lecture on 22 November 2023. It will be an interactive discussion with experts, not a standard lecture.

Systems for the National Repository Platform (NRP)

This course is held in the Czech language.

In the first part, the seminar aims to explain what a repository is and how it works, why data should be stored in a repository, how to fill in metadata, licensing information, versioning, citations, and more. We will also introduce the systems that will form the core implementations of NRP: CLARIN-DSpace, ASEP-ARL, and CESNET-Invenio. Before the final discussion, we will present the overall architecture and development plans of the NRP.

Working with the Zenodo repository

This course is held in the Czech language.

In this lecture, we will discuss one of the most famous repositories, Zenodo. After the lecture, all participants should be able to perform at least the basic tasks in virtually any general repository, which will help them apply the principles of Open Science.
