The first day was opened by Žaneta Procházková, head of the Open Science Working Group at ALCU, who introduced the concept of Open Access from the perspective of funders. Jiří Marek from Masaryk University and EOSC CZ then introduced the principles of Creative Commons licenses, explained their function and possibilities of their application in scientific research and other areas.
The second day was also dedicated to data stewardship and the role of data stewards. Furthermore, Eva Holešová from VŠB-TUO and EOSC CZ presented the EOSC CZ Training Centre, which supports scientists in the field of open science and effective data stewardship. The discussion focused on the implementation of FAIR principles and their importance for sustainable and efficient research data management.
The programme also focused on the topic of data repositories and the National Repository Platform (NRP), where Marika Hrubá and Jaroslav Juráček (both MU & EOSC CZ) presented the current state of research data storage options and the upcoming solutions within the NRP. Participants learned more about the conditions of data storage in the context of the requirements of grant providers. Marika Hrubá added: “We were happy to take this opportunity to introduce the issue of data repositories to the wider Open Science community and the scientists themselves, who were the main target group of this event.”
On the third day, the programme focused on the conditions of funders in the field of Open Access and on Citizen Science. There were presentations on open publishing, and the afternoon session provided concrete examples of citizen science, including projects such as "Prague is Blooming" and "Živá jména," which presented opportunities for public engagement in science activities.
This year's Open Science Week offered participants the opportunity to learn about current topics and trends in open science and data stewardship, and provided inspiration and practical advice for the further development of open research in the Czech Republic.
